Canadian woman, 71, Could Appear behind Bars for Pot Smuggling

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP)- after customs supervisors came across 8 pounds (3.6 kilograms) of marijuana hidden in woman's accoutrement at a Jamaican airport, a 71-year-old Canadian woman confessed her guilt to drug smuggling charges and was taken into custody.

Montego Bay Police Constable Ulet Lewis-Green on Wednesday established her identity the woman as Margueritta Lancaster-Reid of Ontario. Representatives of authority did not discover a hometown for the Canadian duplicated "ganja granny" by local media.

According to Lewis-Green statements the elderly woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to dissembling the marijuana in her luggage at Donald Sangster International Airport. The Jamaica Observer declared her words when she told police officers it was "herbs" when the drug stache was found March 28.

It is expected she will be sentenced Friday and could appear behind bars for a year.
